Mrs. Ann Krulien Woodside Whetstone, 85, of Prosperity, S.C., and formerly of St. Matthews, S.C., died Monday, December 26, 2011, at the National Health Care in Greenwood.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday December 30, 2011, at West End Cemetery, St. Matthews, with the Reverend Charles Tyler officiating.
Mrs. Whetstone was born June 8, 1926 in Simpsonville, S.C., a daughter of the late John Lawrence Woodside and Ann Krulien Smoke Woodside.
She was a 1947 graduate of Converse College and did post graduate study at Tulane University.
She was an amazing mother who was a constant rock for her children and an unfaltering example of love and affection.
Mrs. Whetstone served as an inspiration, not only for her children, but for all who knew her.
She was very devoted to her children, her extended family and her work.
Mrs. Whetstone worked for the South Carolina Department of Social Services until her retirement as Calhoun County director in 1987.
She was a member of St. Matthews Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jack Moorer Whetstone, Jr. and wife, Linda Lee Whetstone of Pawleys Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann Harvin Whetstone Hunter and husband, Wilson Gressette Hunter of Greenwood; two granddaughters, Rebecca Ann Hunter Patrick and her husband, John Rainey Patrick of Greenwood and Leea Woodside Whetstone of Pawleys Island; and two grandsons, Benjamin Adams Whetstone and John Baxter Whetstone, both of Pawleys Island.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth (Bette Jane) Woodside Fairey, and her loving husband, Jack Moorer Whetstone.
As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. Matthews Presbyterian Church, 202 Dantzler Street, St. Matthews, S.C. 29135.
