A ninth candidate will run for Congressional District 7 and join the large crowd of Republican candidates gathering Thursday night to meet the public in Litchfield.
Chad Prosser, the former director of S.C. Parks, Recreation and Tourism, made a formal announcement today (Wednesday) that he will run for office in the newly formed district.
He will also attend Thursday’s Republican Meet and Greet Event in Litchfield, said Georgetown County Republican Party Chairman Jim Jerow.
The event will be held inside the Tara Theater at the Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort.
Candidates will have an opportunity to meet the public, but will not debate during the evening.
The doors will open at 6:15 p.m. The nine candidates will be in the lobby area of the theater to greet the public at that time, Jerow said.
They will pass out campaign literature and talk to the attendees about their campaigns.
At 7 p.m., the program will begin and each candidate will get a chance to take the podium and speak for 10 minutes. They will let the audience know who they are and why they are running, Jerow said.
The candidates will then return to the lobby and talk more with the crowd, Jerow said.
The candidates are: Andre Bauer, Tom Rice, Jay Jordan, Jim Mader, Renee Culler, Randall Wallace, Mande Wilkes and Richard Withington.
Bauer is the former lieutenant governor for South Carolina. Tom Rice is a Myrtle Beach resident and chairman of Horry County Council. Renee Culler is a Murrells Inlet real estate professional. Mande Wilkes is a local media personality. Richard Withington has campaigned for other offices along the Grand Strand.
Randall Wallace is a member of Myrtle Beach City Council. Jay Jordan is a Florence attorney and Jim Mader owns a small landscaping business in Pawleys Island.
Tickets for the event are $10. For more information, contact: Tom Winslow in Georgetown, 843-655-7333, Jerry Rovner, 843-235-0463 or Jim Jerow, 843-240-9456 in the Waccamaw Neck area.
