Pawleys Child Care Center

On behalf of the Pawleys Island Child Care Center I would like to thank our  Community for making the Black History Month event held at Holy Cross Faith  Memorial Episcopal Church in Pawleys Island on Feb. 22 a success.
Lee Brockington’s talk on the Parkersville Community History reminded us all  of our shared history, and created a sense of renewed community pride.
It was Lee’s idea to have this Black History month event as a fundraiser for  The Child Care Center and we are so grateful to her for what we hope will become  an annual event.
The $2,200 in contributions received will provide child care for about 9  months for a child of low income parents. It has been a tough year for our Child  Care Center.
We lost our First Steps funding and had to lay off staff, reduce  staff hours, and the number of children served dropped from 40 to 24.
It takes $3,120 to provide a full year scholarship for an at risk child. To  get our enrollment back to 40 children, another $45,000 is needed for our 2011  budget.
We are grateful to our community supporters and our wonderful volunteers  who make it possible to keep our Center open.
We recently submitted a grant  proposal to a local foundation which, if approved, will help our struggling  Center to remain open.
Please give us a phone call at 237-4765 if you would like to volunteer or  learn more about The Pawley’s Island Child Care Center on Parkersville Road, a  non-profit 501(c) 3 Corporation.

Obama ‘on the sidelines’

Where are the liberal media when we need them? Our President is immersed in selecting the NCAA brackets in the upcoming “March Madness” tournament. What a stand-up guy!
It warms my heart that Obama is showing his priorities. Last Saturday he played his 61st round of golf as president. He then rushed back to the White House to shower before heading out to attend with the Washington elite journalists the annual Grid Iron Dinner.
Another urgent activity was a weekly videotape focusing on “Women’s History Month.” He also took time off to honor the 2009-10 Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Bulls. Another important event was a White House Conference on bullying.
At this point in time we should ask ourselves the question, “If the White House was occupied by a Republican, would the media be silent with the president’s detachment from the grave issues that are confronting America?”
To use a sports metaphor, we see Obama sitting on the sidelines avoiding a decision whether to establish a No-Fly-Zone over Libya.
This delaying action becomes moot since Qaddafi seems to be defeating the rebels. The Middle East faces one rebellion after another; Japan is devastated by earthquakes, tsunamis, possible catastrophic nuclear disasters, with the resulting humanitarian suffering; and a budget battle in this country that neither political party is capable of solving.
The new Prime Minister of Ireland will visit Obama on St. Patrick’s Day and then he is off to Rio the next day.
Obama’s inexplicable detachment from the present day grave issues confronting the international and American events is simply another example of his voting “Present.”
Obama, totally devoid of any leadership qualities, learned early in his career to cover up his ignorance by silence, rather than speaking the usual political “double-talk” and confirming that he is indeed a complete disaster.
From now until November 2012, we can expect Obama to be rigidly anchored to his pre-programmed teleprompters to continually display his lack of knowledge and leadership on the critical issues of our day.
He does not care what happens to people, in this country, or abroad.
His behavior demonstrates that he has no reverence for the Office of the Presidency.
What an embarrassment and disappointment.
The American electorate, who willingly followed him blindly, now bears the responsibility of correcting their huge mistake from the 2008 election.
May God bless America with a real leader in 2012.
