Police blotter: Woman reports stalker

Published Monday, August 15, 2011 5:02 AM

A 40-year-old Murrells Inlet woman met with a deputy Aug. 3 to report being stalked by an older man.
The report has the man’s age listed as between 50 - 60.
The woman said the man comes into the place where she works to drop off his mail and stays for more than an hour talking. She feels he uses the mail drop-off as a reason to see her.
She said she was on the beach recently when he showed up, saying he saw her car. Because of that encounter, she no longer goes to her normal beach location.
On Aug. 2, the woman was walking her dog in her neighborhood when the man drove by and waved. He did not stop but the woman feels he was only there looking for her.
The woman said the man has made statements that her husband does not treat her right and that he wants to be the godfather of her children.
She said she has told him to leave her alone and has informed him she will not be leaving her husband.
The woman decided not to press charges, but wanted a record of the incidents in case things get worse.

Stolen rods

Five rods and reels were reported stolen by a 57-year-old Anderson man staying at a home on South Waccamaw Drive in Garden City Aug. 8.
The man said he left nine rods and reels on the creek dock behind the house Aug. 6. When he went back to the dock two days later, five of them were gone.
The man said the value of the equipment is about $1,250.

Trashed room

A Brookwood Inn motel room was trashed by a Charlotte man Aug. 3 and he was arrested as a result.
The man was still at the Murrells Inlet motel when an employee called 911.
The worker showed the deputy room 38 which had torn up phone books, empty beer bottles and some type of sludge smeared across the tables.
The man, when asked about the condition of the room, said “This is a motel. What do you expect?”

Stolen spirits

The owner of Murrells Inlet Liquors said a man and woman were in the store Aug. 3 and stole a bottle of liquor valued at nearly $50.
On security camera video, the woman is seen trying to distract the owner while the man places two bottles of liquor in his pants.
When he noticed the camera, the man returned one of the bottles to the shelf.
Another shoplifting was reported at that store five days later.
A worker said a young woman was caught on camera placing a $7.55 bottle of Vodka in a shoulder bag she was carrying.
No arrests have been made.

Theft from grandpa

A 78-year-old Georgetown man said he was home alone and was sick Tuesday morning when his 31-year-old grandson stopped by.
When his grandson left, the man noticed nearly $370 was missing from his wallet.
He said this is not the first time his grandson has stolen from him.

Information  is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
