Police Blotter: Urine and toilet water thrown at county jail

Published Wednesday, August 10, 2011 3:47 AM

A 31-year-old woman who was cleaning the D block at the Georgetown County Detention Center Aug. 4,  said she was hit with toilet water by a 19-year-old male inmate.
She said the man was mad because the water in the D block was going to be turned off for a while because of a malfunction.
Three days later, the same man allegedly threw urine on a female nurse. The woman said she was attempting to give medication to the suspect’s cell mate when the 19-year-old man asked for some water.
The nurse told him lunch was about to be served and denied his request. The man then said he was going to throw urine on the nurse so she closed the trap door on the cell but the bodily fluid hit her on the right side of her face and neck.
The man was escorted to the rubber room which is where he was when the deputy arrived.
The officer said the man was continuing to yell and make threats towards the jail workers.
He even told the deputy he would beat him if he could leave the room.
That same day, the inmate who was getting the medication — a 30-year-old Pennsylvania man — allegedly tossed urine on a male officer who was collecting lunch trays.
The officer — a 47-year-old man — said right after the inmate handed him his tray, he threw the liquid on him. It struck the officer in the face.
The workers in all of the incidents were told to speak to a magistrate about obtaining warrants against the men.

Possible “spoof”

A man from Beaumont Drive in Pawleys Island talked to deputies about some text messages he received from someone identified as “Ashley.”
The man said he knows no one by that name and does not recognize the numbers from which they were sent.
The man said “Ashley” asked him several questions such as his age but he did not answer.
The officer said it sounds as if “Ashley” was involved in a scam called “spoofing” which is an attempt to obtain personal information from a person.
Spoofers use untraceable phone numbers, the officer said.

‘Spine’ found in bushes

A woman and her family were taking photos in front of a home on Waccamaw Drive in Garden City Aug. 3 when they noticed what looked like a spine on the ground between the bushes.
The bones were supposed to be collected by a deputy as evidence but they fell apart as he was putting them in a bag. He gathered them back up and was able to get them in the bag.
A doctor at Waccamaw Hospital told the deputy the bones appeared to be from an animal.

Information  is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
